Basic Summary

The buyer/planner manages materials and/or services to support the company’s purchasing programs. They are responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company’s needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. The position is further responsible for providing high-quality customer service to both internal and external customers. To be successful in this role, relationship building must be a key strength.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with new clients and maintain or enhance relationships with existing ones
  • Work with customer to collect specs, drawings, and other necessary details for the quote
  • Negotiate quotes that are fair for both K-TECH and the customer
  • Procure all materials required to manufacture sub-assemblies and finished products
  • Identify preferred material planning methodology for each item based on K-TECH best practices
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Create PO then upon receipt, verify pricing and terms with quote
  • Conduct contract review meetings
  • Monitor and adjust material planning methods in response to changes in customer demand
  • To determine levels of inventory to meet organizational metrics
  • Negotiate and administer purchase orders in support of production needs
  • Develop and monitor plans to reduce/eliminate excess and slow moving inventory
  • Regularly communicate with Management, Customers, Suppliers to prevent issues
  • Work with Finance to address any payment issues
  • Work with Operations and Engineering to develop level loaded production schedule based on capacity and customer needs

Qualifications :


  • Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing and planning in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be eligible to work in the US


  • Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications
  • Solid understanding of materials management methodologies
  • Organizational, communication, computer, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • APICS or ISM Certification or the ability to obtain within 3 years
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • Familiar with FAR/ITAR and Government Contracting

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business experience

Salary: $36,500.00 to $50,000.00 /year
